The Rude House Guest

We had a house guest the other day who was really rather rude.

He flagrantly took a pee in the garden and then had a nap in a bed that wasn’t his (without asking).

He also slept under the table, stole a tennis ball ….. OK so Roland is a dog and he was just doing what dogs do.

As I watched him I was intrigued – it struck me how great it must be to engage with life without a load of stories running in your head.

He wasn’t trying to be polite, he wasn’t trying to impress, he wasn’t worrying what anyone thought, he was just being.

As he curiously watched me from Buzz’s bed (with the stolen tennis ball) he seemed unperturbed and totally at ease.

He wasn’t worrying when he was going home, he wasn’t concerned about when his next walk or meal would be. He was lying down, taking a rest because that was what he was inspired to do.

When the need arose in him to sleep, pee or play – he seemed to take action naturally. The only time for Roland was ‘now’.

I love getting glimmers of what it must be like to live without stories, without the identities of ‘self’ we create and without the rules and regulations we’ve made up and then beat ourselves up with.

What would it be like to live life from source and in the present moment? What would it be like to be moved to take action without the accompanying flurry of thought, insecurities and concerns?

There seems to be such richness exploring the knowing presence, the deeper intelligence of true nature. What would it be like to not get lost in the why’s, wherefores, shoulds and need-to’s – and instead be curious about the settled, quiet space within.

As my attention rests on this internal knowing presence, the stories lose their intensity and the identities I’ve created, lose their power.

This is the nature of our coaching these days. We help people to discover their true nature. It’s the best job in the world.
