The Answer to Brexit
September 9, 2019

Brexit! – Remain! – Resignations! -No Deal!

Is it Boris the Fool or Boris Saviour?

British politics is jumping around like a box of agitated frogs – hard to keep tabs on and hard to predict.

Opinions on Brexit seem so entrenched, they are fiercely guarded. Is this the end of democracy? What did the people actually vote for? Did they vote for no-deal? What about those who voted remain? Are they really all remoaners ?

There has been something compelling about watching the unfolding drama of Brexit playing out in parliament.

The yelling, the shouting, the jeering, the passion, the fighting and the determination.

The House of Commons, usually a staid theatre of ritualistic procedures, is mirroring the split opinion being voiced up and down the country. Everyone, it seems, has an entrenched opinion. It is like we’re all caught up in a Punch and Judy show.

Yesterday I sat with Buzz on Dartmoor, enjoying the warmth of the September sun observing the landscape as it shifts from green to orange. From my seat on the granite boulder, the pantomime of politics was a million miles away.

Buzz on Dartmoor

Watching the slow moving cattle, grazing on the slopes of the opposite valley and feeling the freshness of the breeze against my cheek, I was once again immersed in the settled space of contentment and peace.

I gently mulled on the need for healing in our country, on the need for people to reconnect, on my desire to be a voice for those who are being overlooked, to reach out and connect with fellow human beings.

I don’t know what the answer is to Brexit. But I do know what it isn’t.

The answer doesn’t lie in the raging rights and wrongs of Brexit. The answer doesn’t lie in cajoling, persuading or arguing with other egos about who’s story is right.

Knowing where the answer doesn’t lie is a good starting point.

To me, the answer is a whisper drawing me to reach into a deeper part within. To connect with that which lies beneath and beyond the ego.

This Rumi quote says it much more eloquently than I:

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing
and rightdoing there is a field.
I’ll meet you there.
When the soul lies down in that grass
the world is too full to talk about.

As the season transitions to autumn, I feel a shift in energy.

This isn’t about complacency, or burying my head in the sand. This is about listening to my own internal guidance system and moving in the direction my Inner Compass takes me.
