As autumn has blown in I’ve found myself loving the ritual of lighting the fire and hunkering down with warm drinks and hot soups. For me autumn has two almost opposing vibes to it. The new and the old seem to thrive side by side. Autumn feels like a time of slowing down but it also feels like a time of new beginnings. It feels like it’s a time when things naturally die back (like the moorland bracken) but then in the dying back there is the chance for something new.
For some time my soul has felt restless, mirroring the blustering winds and sharp rain storms. I wonder if the restlessness I’ve been feeling is the same restlessness that the swallows feel as the line up on the telegraph wires just before their journey south. The restlessness has been with me for some time I wonder whether it will last much longer.
As I watch the fallen leaves swirl in the gales I’m aware of shifts within me. I’m learning to listen within and as I do so I can hear the call to let go of the things that I’ve now outgrown.
One of those things is social media.I realise that I no longer enjoy it as much as I used to. After two weeks of not engaging I realised it was time to withdraw from social media. I’m not sure if this is temporary or permanent. It just makes good sense to me at the moment. I’m in the process of reaching out to people to let them know that I’m moving off Facebook. An unforeseen bonus has been conversations and updates and walks with people as we connect in person. I love this sense of connection.
I am re-connecting with my natural ability of listening deeply. I’m listening to my soul, I’m listening to Nature and I’m listening to the quiet spiritual calling that draws me back to balance. Autumn seems to be the perfect month to truly listen.
